A DAY OF GREAT DISTRESS!
Early this morning, Margit had to say good bye to Zorro Son by our wonderful Elite mare Linett and Zorro Z.
A terrible colic and subsequent dehydration ended a long and fantastic story with Zorro for Margit and, not least, us here at Stutteri Toftøje. Everything was done to save him, but in vane. He has brought many pleasant, funny and thrilling moments for all of us – the greatest of them being when licensed in the German Oldenburger Verband in Hengstbuch I in 2007!
We all have “the horse of our life” and we know that Zorro was that horse for Margit – we hope that when the first grief is fading, she will enjoy the children that he did leave behind!
In the photo gallery below you see pictures from various moments in his life with Margit in the first row, and in the second row you see the last pictures taken of him on 17 August at the 10 year anniversary for Stutteri Klosterheden, where Jesper had the pleasure to show him, the pride of our stud: ZOROO SON!
Yesterday we had wonderful news! The damline of our Elite mare Linett continues the successful breeding path. At the Mare Riding Inspection yesterday, the granddaughter of Linett, Lakina by Akinos / Hertug / Racing Ace XX - a daughter of L
We will try to get in touch with the owners of Lakina, maybe they have some pictures from this big day. Until then, we have found a couple of foal pictures and a bit of video of Lakina as a foal can be seen HERE
At the same time as the World Championships for Young Horses were held in Verden, another yearly event was being held very close by: "Pferdesportfestival Niedersachsen in Allersehl". Here, among others, the State Stud Celle stallion Don Frederico by Donnerhall / Consul with his steady rider Ole Köhler participated in two dressage tests with good placings in both test.
In dressage test S* they were placed no. 6 with 67.42% out of 21 participants, and in the other test; dressage S** they were placed no. 5 with 66.35% out of 18 participants.
Very well done!
The picture is from the prize ceremony in S**
We are back after five fantastic days in Verden! This year, for the first time, we watched the Herwarth von der Decken Schau – the Elite Mare Show for Hannoverian mares, and it was a great experience. But what made the biggest impression this day was the group of half-bred mares – 14 mares, 7 of these by Lauries Crusador XX – one was more impressive than the other!
And this year, it was incredible to be Danish, winning both the Gold and the Silver medal for 5-year olds – the spirits were high!
As always, we were interested in seeing offspring by sires that we have used and also this year the Don Frederico offspring did very well. In the qualifications for the Nürnberger Burgpokal (Prix St. Georg Special) the 7-year old Hannoverian mare Diva Royal won her section with 70,650% - a gorgeous mare ridden by Dorothee Schneider. Diva Royal is not completly unknow; in 2008 she was placed 5th in the Bundeschampionship for
6-year olds – she was then ridden by Tom Berg.
In the Hanoverian Championship for 3-year old mares and geldings, the gelding Depardieu by Don Frederico / Weltmeyer won the qualification with 8.58 and in the final he was placed second with 8.5, only beaten by 0.08!
Yesterday we had all the mares checked and they are all still pregnant :-)
Only our dear Linett is not pregnant, but we have decided to start early next year and then we will use chilled semen – with her 19 years and 14 foals it is probably quite optimistic to continue using frozen semen.
So next year we are expecting foals by: Rascalino, Zorro Son and Stevie Wonder.
